A Song for Pollinators

Location

Praise to the plump yellow bumblebee
collecting pollen from a perfect pink poppy

Praise to the orange monarchs
probing red zinnias for sweet nectar

Praise to the insects flitting between zucchini flowers
moving miniscule grains of pollen

Praise to the hummingbirds, their heads and bills
carry pollen among blooms

Praise to the nearby native plant prairie
a Ritz hotel for pollinators

Praise to the milkweed that hosts caterpillars
and sustains butterflies

Praise to the humans who keep this land healthy
without chemical sprays

Praise to all pollinators
the workhorses that make nature go ‘round.
