Crabapples

They are yellow with a red blush
nothing like the green crabapples
from last year, she tells me
so many had fallen, covered the ground

the urge to pick them on her walk
becomes the moist oatmeal apple
delicacies appearing
on our dinner table

fall feels like fall today, we agree
but the crabapple tree
enjoys a summer renaissance
