creosote
which is chromosomally one being
grows slowly over centuries
outward in mandala camouflage
at home in god’s petri dish
chemicals from its dropped leaves
prevent germination
of plants that
want to share water
biological warfare
botanical balance persists
upon this flat arbor less desert
for a while longer
coyote
which is chronologically one soul
howls the perimeter of existence
where thirst is a mirage
poisoned, triggered and trapped, yet
the silhouette of the pack grew
a trick of bigger litters
a hunting strategy of
gleeful teamwork with badgers
scouting rats and garbage in cities
omnivores in balance persist
with goddess at her picnic table
for a while longer

Michele Worthington lives in Tucson, AZ where the Sonoran Desert, urban sprawl and our unacknowledged apocalypse inspire her writing. She has had some poems published and some photography used and has won some contests. Nothing terribly life changing. It is the rejections that keep her grounded.
