Lawnmowers run you over,
hands pluck you from the ground.
Weed, they call you–
pest is what they mean.
You persist despite it all.
Plant yourself elsewhere–
get back up.
Start over again.
You think you’ve found
your place, a safe space.
You grow comfortably,
let the bees feed and
pollinate so they
feel accomplished.
Job well done!
Yellow petals fall
and fade. Your crown,
toned on a freshly
sun-bleached head of
wispy white seeds,
blow through the air
carrying wishes,
bearing stories
no one can hear.
