Erosion

Location

The end of Point Pelee, the very tip,
used to reach out further into Lake Erie.
I remember when. These days, I visit to walk
amidst the Carolinian trees, breathing humidity.
I stand, close my eyes, conjure land’s end.

The ghost of the tree that once stood there
is painted memory, in deepest pool of third eye.
Try it next time: squint eyes shut, watch that old tree,
birds settling in its branches, tourists taking selfies,
and random birdwatchers jostling under brightest sky.
Hear the echoes of gulls past, screeching out their lament.
