Floral Comfort

During my autumn country walk,
along roadside ditches and fallow fields,
Mother Nature creates a garden
of Lanceleaf Coreopsis.

I pause, view daisy-like florets.
Blossoms extend a cordial welcome
with waves and smiles.
I grin and cull a bouquet.

The scent of dill from lacy
lime foliage lingers
on my fingertips.

I hold the sweet blooms
to my nose, imagine
lounging among sun disks.

Savor a warm memory-
honey spread on hot buttered biscuits,
a cozy breakfast in bed
under a comforter of sunshine.
