Bound to time and place,
we once lived side by side
with the beasts in a world
of sacred dimensions,
swallowed not by the wolf
but by insatiable greed.
Men’s shadow of the
undesired and unwanted,
the wild and sexual,
bearer of magic hairs
in fairy tales
and devouring
the unsuspecting;
holding spiritual gifts
for reincarnation
in ancient lore,
when everything
was still beginning
balancing out from,
and ending with,
polarities akin to
yin and yang.
Before the next fall,
during wind age and wolf age,
the packs run free again
and transform primeval
fear into the awe that
they inspire after they shed
the sheep’s clothing that
false prophets put upon them.
Divine and totemic,
they will return once more
full of untamed power
and long forgotten songs
echoing in a verdant new world,
a wise woman prophesied
during a full January moon,
while the night cried.
