an endless splitting
narrowing and finally
flutter of leaves—
phoebe teeters effortlessly
before lofting out
to snatch now
the bejeweled dragonfly
now the whining
mosquito now the
mottled oak moth
each time realighting
on its chosen twig
each taste of life
savored
anew
