Lizard Time

Location

I want to notice time,
like the green lizard
who sits here on the porch
exactly when the sun begins
to shine her orange light
and feed the deck with warmth.

I want to be aware,
and to be shaped
by the soft rhythms of this earth.

It is easy to forget to notice
when the wild petunias begin to bloom,
when the oak drops her leaves,
when the cedar waxwings return.

Thank you, sweet lizard,
for reminding me to notice

This light,
This leaf,
This earth.
