It’s a good day to open the window
and dust the plants. My nose in leaves,
I look through green to the blue, blue.
A dried leaf butterflies
through empty branches.
Snowmelt drips, dappled joy
rivering the driveway.
Outside, my jacket open, I chop ice.
Widen the course. Vapor rises
from the drying sidewalk and my hips
sigh in anticipation of a lengthened stride.
Maybe only for today, balance is simple.
