My cupped palm

Location

was a nest           a bowl
for acorns, inchworms
and caterpillars

then, it became
a way
to drink water,
a way
to shovel sand

to hold tiny seeds

Today I grow
a sunflower out of my palm
or imagine
a painted sunflower
spreading across
my hand
