The smell of woodsmoke on a gauzy autumn day.
Morning’s first sip of good hot coffee.
Locking eyes with a deer as she laterally chews tender cottonwood leaves.
Noticing anything leads me to notice everything
all at once
overwhelming my heart, sending electricity through sinews.
Just for a moment, I dwell in the moment
and I fear so much the loss
of these things that ground
me.
I observe the world, and it is almost
unbearable.
So much more than perfect.
