Susan is an artist, writer, teacher, and former Coast Guard officer who lives in coastal North Carolina. She writes on themes of family, ancestral heritage, nature, travel, and the sea. Her work appears in Chautauqua, Sky Island Journal, Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, The Blue Mountain Review and As You Were: The Military Review. She was the 2019 Writer-in-Residence at the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.
