We Went to the Meadow and Never Came Back

Location

The dotted line your fingers draw

as you walk them over my ribs reminds

me of the dirt path we took here, soft sun

illuminating translucent leaves; our feet

left no footprints. And here we lay

among wildflowers and weeds, our final resting place

if we so choose, my roots reaching down

and my eyes reaching up. To be a bird in the sky

is not to be free. It is to be fulfilled.
