The field is just a shadow
where a spirited lion cub romps.
No one can catch her.

The field is dreamy, shaded by clouds.
The lion’s muscles round out to perfection.
She carries her strength inside her.

The field is windswept and sun-dappled
as the lion transmutes from tumbling player
Into a survivor and warrior.

The field is plowed and wide-open.
In her worn-out jaw the shrewd lioness
carries her cub into the future.
